His Excellency Benjamin Anani Quashie joined other High Commissioners and Ambassadors to participate in the G20 Leaders’ Summit Morning Live Breakfast Engagement on 17th November, 2025. The event was hosted by the Honourable Ronald Lamola, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, at the Royal Majestic Hotel in Rosebank, South Africa.

In his remarks, Minister Lamola emphasised that the G20 Summit coincided with the 70th anniversaries of the Freedom Charter and the Bandung Conference, both of which highlight the enduring principles of peace, friendship, and cooperation among nations. He noted that these values remained highly relevant in the current global context.

The Minister acknowledged the historic importance of South Africa’s G20 Presidency, particularly the African Union’s participation as a full member for the first time. He reiterated the commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable international community, especially in light of recent economic improvements, such as a decline in the unemployment rate and an upgrade in South Africa’s credit rating. Nevertheless, he recognised the ongoing challenges, including crime and the necessity for sustained economic growth.

The prioritisation of debt sustainability for low-income countries was discussed, as well as the urgent need to tackle issues related to climate change. A call for a unified African voice in global dialogues regarding critical minerals and sustainable development was also emphasised in the interest of beneficiation.

Finally, Minister Lamola urged participants to promote collective action beyond governmental frameworks, highlighting the essential role of partnerships and multilateral cooperation in establishing a just and dignified global order. The Minister expressed optimism for the upcoming days and the potential for successful negotiations at the Leaders’ Summit.
