High Commissioner Quashie Attends Closing Ceremony of G20 Social Summit

His Excellency Benjamin Anani Quashie, the High Commissioner of Ghana to South Africa, attended the closing ceremony of the G20 Summit at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre in Ekurhuleni. In his keynote address, President Cyril Ramaphosa highlighted the significance of the inaugural summit on African soil and reviewed the outcomes from the three-day event.

He emphasised the summit’s theme of advancing solidarity, equality, and sustainability, urging leaders to prioritise the protection of vulnerable populations, ensure the welfare of children, eradicate child poverty, and promote gender equality. Discussions included the urgent need to combat gender-based violence and femicide, focusing on empowering women and youth to enhance health, education and social systems in South Africa.

President Ramaphosa underscored the necessity of inclusive global cooperation and equitable resource access, advocating for progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. He acknowledged the essential contributions of civil society, labour unions, businesses, and grassroots organisations in shaping global policies.

The event coincided with World Children’s Day, during which he commemorated the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, reiterating the urgent need to eliminate child poverty and hunger, protect the well-being of children and create increased opportunities for young people.
