Mrs. Matilda Asante Asiedu, the Second Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Ghana, with two other officials, participated in the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) Plenary Meeting, held from 9th to 10th March, 2026, at the South African Reserve Bank in Pretoria.
The NGFS, launched during the Paris One Planet Summit on 12th December, 2017, is a collaborative initiative involving central banks and financial supervisors dedicated to sharing best practices and advancing the integration of environmental and climate risk management within the financial sector. The initiative aims to mobilise mainstream finance to facilitate the transition toward a sustainable economy.
The plenary meeting brought together over 180 representatives from central banks and supervisory authorities across 76 countries, engaging in critical discussions on various topics, including climate adaptation, the incorporation of nature risk into supervisory frameworks, the implications of climate change on monetary policy, and updates on short-term climate scenarios, among others.
During her visit to South Africa, the Second Deputy Governor also paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Benjamin Anani Quashie, High Commissioner of Ghana to South Africa to share insights and outcomes from the meeting, further strengthening the diplomatic and financial ties between the engaging countries.
