The Ghana High Commission in South Africa has taken note of a viral video circulating on social media in which a Ghanaian national is seen appealing for evacuation assistance.
- The High Commissioner, H.E. Benjamin Quashie, has since engaged the individual, Mr. Sylvester Boakye, regarding the matter.
- During the engagement, Mr. Boakye acknowledged that he proceeded to the airport independently, without prior contact with the High Commission or adherence to the established coordination procedures.
- The Mission has assured him of its readiness to provide the necessary assistance to facilitate his safe return to Ghana once all required processes and arrangements are duly completed.
- The High Commission wishes to clarify that, contrary to reports in circulation, no chartered aircraft arrived for the evacuation of Ghanaian nationals due to outstanding procedural and technical arrangements.
- The Mission further assures the Ghanaian community in South Africa that efforts are actively underway to ensure a safe and orderly evacuation process for all persons who voluntarily registered for repatriation.
- Members of the Ghanaian community requiring assistance or further clarification are encouraged to contact the High Commission through the designated numbers provided.
