The High Commissioner of Ghana to South Africa, His Excellency Benjamin Anani Qaushie, delivered a keynote address at the University of Venda to commemorate Africa Day 2026 on 19th May, 2026.
Speaking to leaders, faculty, students and distinguished guests, Quashie described Africa Day as an opportunity to bring African peoples together beyond borders, reaffirming shared heritage and a commitment to a more integrated and prosperous continent. He commended the University’s regional focus, including its recruitment of staff across Africa since 1994, and highlighted the progress of major infrastructure projects worth over R600 million.
Addressing the theme, “Unity in Diversity:Advancing AfCFTA Through Engaged Scholarship, Indigenous Knowledge, and Sustainable Trade” High Commissioner Quashie emphasised the central role universities play in shaping future leaders and in supporting AfCFTA through evidence-based research, academic collaboration and knowledge exchange. He also called for the revalorisation of indigenous knowledge and stressed that trade must be sustainable, equitable and inclusive, paired with economic, cultural and ethical transformation.
He concluded by urging continued dedication to African unity, self-determination and solidarity, thanking the University of Venda for the invitation and wishing all attendees a meaningful Africa Day.
