On 23rd January 2026, His Excellency Benjamin Anani Quashie, High Commissioner of Ghana to South Africa, joined fellow Heads of Diplomatic Missions representing countries across the African continent for the first meeting of the Africa Group of Ambassadors accredited to South Africa for 2026.
The meeting provided an important platform for Ambassadors to discuss shared interests, particularly strategies to involve the 6th Region in promoting collaboration and fostering ongoing participation within the group.
As part of the agenda, the Ambassadors received briefings from their counterparts from Venezuela, Haiti, Somalia, and Nigeria on recent developments in their respective countries. Furthermore, the Head of the Regional Delegation of the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) addressed the Group, encouraging Member States to commit to the Global Initiative to Galvanize Support for International Humanitarian Law (IHL). Additionally, new Ambassadors were introduced to their colleagues within the group. The meeting convened at the CT Hotel in Pretoria.
