The High Commission of Ghana in South Africa is committed to engaging with South African authorities to secure specialised permits for Ghanaians residing in South Africa, within the framework of the Ghana–South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC). This objective fully aligns with Ghana’s foreign policy objective to promote the welfare of Ghanaians abroad.
This issue of specialised permits featured prominently in His Excellency Benjamin Anani Quashie, High Commissioner of Ghana to South Africa’s intervention on immigration matters during the Virtual Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) held on 24th February 2026 between Ghana and South Africa.
The SOM, co-chaired by Ambassador Preprah Ampratwum, Director, Africa Bilateral Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana, and Mr Nyameko Goso, Chief Director for West Africa of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa, reviewed the status of implementation of the agreed decisions arising from the 2nd Ghana–South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC). It is anticipated that the discussions during the SOM will form the basis for deliberations at the forthcoming Mid-Term Review at the level of Foreign Ministers of the two countries.
