High Commissioner Quashie Sends Consular Services To The Door Step of Ghanaians in Cape Town And Its Environs

17 May, 2026 General, News

A team of officials from the High Commission of Ghana in Pretoria, led by His Excellency Benjamin Anani Quashie, Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, undertook a consular visit to Cape Town. The visit formed part of the Mission’s commitment to bringing consular services closer to Ghanaians residing in every nook and cranny of South Africa.

The purpose of the visit was to brief members of the Ghanaian Community on recent developments and to highlight the practical measures being implemented by the Government of Ghana to address challenges arising from recent xenophobic incidents, with a view to supporting the safety and well-being of Ghanaians across South Africa.

While addressing the Ghanaian Community in Cape Town, High Commissioner Quashie reiterated the Government of Ghana’s dedication to the welfare of Ghanaians worldwide, in line with Ghana’s Foreign Policy. He further encouraged Ghanaians who may wish to return to Ghana to consult the High Commission’s website and social media platforms, where guidance is available, and to share their details with the Mission. This, he indicated, will enable the Government of Ghana, through its Mission, to provide the appropriate consular support and assist with their eventual evacuation where necessary.

In addition, to ensure timely assistance and address community concerns, the High Commissioner urged residents to contact the Mission through any of the five designated phone lines for clarification and support on matters of concern.

Cape Town, as a major provincial city, is an important destination for international events. However, its relative distance from Johannesburg can make access to consular services challenging for Ghanaians, particularly in the absence of an Honorary Consul or Consul-General.

The High Commission remains committed to sustained engagement with the Ghanaian Community and to ensuring that consular support is provided with care, responsiveness, and professionalism.
